An estimated three million people took to the streets in cities around the world this weekend to protest the presidency of Donald Trump and defend women’s rights, and some big names were among them.

In Washington D.C, where the main Women’s March event attracted around half a million people – a far bigger crowd than Trump’s inauguration received the day before – Scarlett Johansson spoke to the crowd, as did America Ferrera, Madonna, Ashley Judd, feminist author and activist Gloria Steinem and film maker Michael Moore. Alicia Keys performed her hit “Girl On Fire” and read a poem by black literary figure Maya Angelou. The line-up was far more impressive than the talent at Trump’s inauguration celebrations: Three Doors Down and America’s Got Talent contestant Jackie Evancho were the most high-profile names to the take to the stage.

Other A-listers that joined the rally at America’s capital were Rihanna, Lena Dunham, Chrissy Teigen, Amy Schumer, Jessica Chastain and Emma Watson, who all mingled with the hundreds of thousands of other protestors.

'Women’s Rights are Human Rights and Human Rights are Women’s Rights. We must create a society in which women – including Black women, Native women, poor women, immigrant women, disabled women, Muslim women, lesbian queer and trans women – are free and able to care for and nurture their families, however they are formed, in safe and healthy environments free from structural impediments.' – @womensmarch Regram @vanityfair ?by @derekblasberg #nastywomenmakehistory
