Imagine an entire week spent drinking cocktails.

If the prospect sounds as though it would be a slightly taxing one (financially, if not just physically) then you might be surprised to find that the program of events scheduled for World Class Cocktail Week actually sounds rather languorous, and not at all like the wallet-emptying bender you might otherwise anticipate.

Running from May 7 until May 13 this year and culminating on World Cocktail Day, bars and restaurants in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane will play host to over 100 events ranging from collaborative dinners, multi-course banquets and masterclasses to bespoke brewing experiences and unexpected pairings. Highlights from the Sydney program include a three-course roaming dinner held at different restaurants on the same block in Bondi, including Neighbourhood, Drake and Milky Lane; a masterclass in pairing artisan gelato with Scotch whiskey at The Wild Rover in Surry Hills; a celebration of Sydney’s beloved Espresso Martini at The Carrington; and a margarita and taco-making masterclass at Barrio Cellar in the CBD.

Likewise, venues across Melbourne will host a further 40 events, including a luxury boat cruise with a three-course feast by Vaporetto Bar & Eatery and a cocktail-matched, five-course degustation at Hochi Mama; a masterclass in using native Australian ingredients at Bad Frankie in Fitzroy is sure to strike a cord; as are two interstate residencies courtesy of Sydney’s brilliant PS-40 and Bulletin Place cocktail bars. In Brisbane, the epi-curious will be able to create a custom gin using their own botanicals at Pony Dining; enjoy heightened cocktail experiences thanks to a little sensory deprivation at Savile Row; and taste iconic watering hole The Gresham’s entrants into this year’s World Class cocktail competition.

World Class Cocktail Week runs from May 7 to May 13 at various venues in each capital city. You can find out more information here.
