If you haven’t yet heard of Peter Do, you should do yourself a favour and become acquainted with him. The FIT alum cut his teeth designing under Derek Lam and Phoebe Philo, before going on to win the inaugural LVMH Graduates Prize in 2014. Take one look at his refined, rather androgynous tailoring, his utilitarian construction and his deft craftsmanship, and the Philo-ism is loud and clear. Along with Daniel Lee’s new-era Bottega Veneta, it’s been suggested Do is plugging the veritable hole Philo left when departing the then accented Céline, his formidable safari shirts, cutout crepe blazers and pleated voile skirts taking up residency in stylish womens wardrobes around the world. And one such woman is Zendaya.

Helped along by her stylist, the inimitable Law Roach (who penned an exclusive essay for GRAZIA’s new Reinvention Issue), Zendaya has made quite the habit of taking fashion risks. She’s worn head-to-toe pistachio, tartan suits and some of the most memorable Met Gala looks to date (who could forget the light-up Cinderella gown with Roach as her Fairy Godbrother?). But at the Elle Women in Hollywood Gala in Los Angeles, one of her most spectacular fashion moments yet.

Wearing a kind of deconstructed Peter Do suit in shades of grey, Zendaya proved why she, Roach and Do are fashionable forces in their own right. Do’s impeccable tailoring was on show in the form of a cropped bolero jacket, sheeny satin shirt and relaxed trouser with exaggerated, folded cuff – all in an elephant grey. But it was Roach’s addition of a two-tone asymmetrical skirt over the top of the trouser which proved the sartorial trump card, an unexpected twist on traditional tailoring both on-trend and interesting.

Riding the revival of dresses-over-pants, it was a considered, canny and above all else, exceptionally stylish look from all those involved. Mark our words: Do is the one to watch.
