Let’s cut back to NYFW Zimmermann SS15 for one second: Usual flecks of chintz floral patterning was replaced with ruffled necklines, sheer silk and intricate lace. Custom-woven brocade – a staple to those who wear the brand season-to-season – was both updated and more pronounced. Careless knots with purposeful fly-aways casually off-set the high neck Victorian collars, a nod to the Australian rustled-yet-refined charm. Selena Gomez. Vanessa Hudgens. Kendall Jenner. It was the season that – four years after opening their first U.S. store on Robertson Boulevard in swanky Beverley Hills – made a thump with big name celebrities. Everybody was wearing Zimmermann.

Fast forward to Zimmermann AW17 and the front row is looking even more impressive. New York fashion socialite Olivia Palermo was sitting pretty to witness the evolution of the SS15 collection. Sleeker lines with a lesser focus on high necks but double the emphasis on lace and frills, the AW17 collection dropped hemlines to bring the previous Victorian-inspired range forward 20 years to the 1920s. And while we wait a few months for these to hit stores (where’s the See-Now-Buy-Now concept when you need it?) let’s shop the in-store Zimmermann favourites, a la SS17, which are a hybrid mix of both aforementioned seasons (and worn by some very stylish ladies).
Each season, before each Fashion Week show, talent and influencers alike are invited to fittings where they can try-on current in-store designs to wear to the show. This ensures that those in the front row are spotted/photographed in the designer showing.
