There’s no denying the cool that comes with Zoë Kravitz. She has that ineffable air about her, the kind that straddles the glamorous and the edgy all in one. Put her in a ball gown – or Doc Martens – and that same spirit arises.
There is no better example of this than yesterday’s Vanity Fair’s Oscars After-Party. Zoë – all five foot of her – arrived in nothing more than a slinky gold bra, black column skirt and simple up ‘do. It was a look which recalled 90s minimalism, the kind you would expect from Helmut Lang, Calvin Klein or Donna Karan, but with a little more razzle dazzle. That bra, for one, was worth its weight in gold; $24,000 to be exact. The mesh bralette from Tiffany & Co.’s Elsa Peretti collection was delicately sheer, touting its own kind of #freethenip moment. She paired this with a simple black column skirt from Saint Laurent, which hung well below her tiny hips with an unfussy silhouette conducive to the era. It also revealed a major midriff moment, a slender little slab of tummy taking the spotlight, too.
Up top, beauty was a lesson in less is more. Burnished eyes with a hint of Awards-season-gleam, groomed brows and a brick red lip accompanied soft skin; a gentle smattering of freckles and those killer carved cheekbones. Hair- in fine dreadlocks – was gracefully pulled into an up ‘do which had a slight imperfect leaning, another example of subtle irreverence refined beautifully.
Statement-dressing made modern by this generation’s indubitable queen of cool, Zoë Kravitz proves minimalism has its place on Hollywood’s red carpet. And rightfully so.
